The Moogle Chocobo Carnival!
Back in early 2017 Square Enix added the Moogle Chocobo Carnival to Final Fantasy XV. Noctis got to visit the carnival in Altissia, explore the decorated city and play mini games such as chocobo racing, hitting cactuars with a squeaky toy hammer, finding runaway chocobo chicks and of course, fishing! The carnival was time limited so more recent players (such as myself) missed their chance. That was until a very clever chap named Kizari spent almost a year toiling over the code to bring the carnival back as a Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition mod. It is an absolute joy to play. There is so much to see and do. With Carbuncle as your companion you can easily navigate the city, you can even warp across canals. There are plenty of photo opportunities and I recommend saving up your medallions to stay at the Leville and get the best seat in the house for the firework display. Just keep an eye out for a certain Kenny Crow ;) It's a must have mod for any discerning FFXV player and it's so simple to install with Flagrum's mod manager. Download the carnival mod here today: https://www.curseforge.com/final-fantasy-xv/mods/moogle-chocobo-carnival All images copyright Square Enix Co. Ltd.

#i didn't do anything too weird#only one graphical/texture fix mod#i added the Moogle Chocobo Carnival + the ability to put an extra character in the party! 🥰#(with the intention of bringing Aranea everywhere lol)#yeah i will probably end up liveblogging my epic progress + failures so everyone look forward to that#good night 😴💜

Every time I see Noct in this outfit, I hear a flamenco guitar flourish in my head.
"¡Muchachos, vamanos!"
he's judging my outfit pretty harshly, but i think deep down he's a little jealous that he doesn't have a chocobo sombrero too

headcanon + moogle chocobo carnival hehe
Headcanon meme | accepting but forever the slowest
fdskjsf I was one of those people desperately trying to focus on making sure Noctis had a good time fishing and playing games and completely ignoring the fact that everything was actually quite unnerving and clearly not real, alright. ...I think I still have two chicks in my inventory that I never turned in.
While Carbuncle was the Messenger who didn’t want to see Noctis simply lead to the slaughter, he also had no power to change it. He was limited to what he could do in dreams, and knew that it would be impossible to properly recreate Noct’s most important people... but he could give the king as much of a vacation from his duty as he could manage. A moment’s peace. Laughter. And music.
To this day, sometimes a very peculiar song is heard playing from nowhere in the far-off lands of Lucis... over... and over... and over...

Lucky Shot
Several years have passed since the Everlasting Night. Things have returned to some sort of normalcy on the star of Eos. Enough that some time spent on a vacation in Altissia to experience the Moogle Chocobo Carnival was not too much of an ask. Luckily for these two, they happened to be at the right place at the right time for the both of them.
Word Count: 2,918
Altissia, the City on the Sea. It was a city that revered the Tidemother, Leviathan, and paid high respect to the emissary, Bismarck. Though today, it was decorated with all kinds of balloons, streamers, mascots, and floats of fluffy white moogles, and yellow feathery chocobos. After all, today was the day of the Moogle Chocobo Carnival!
Clack! Clack! Clack!
The Galviano Gallery had been set up to house a multitude of targets that people could take up foam ball guns to shoot at. At such an attraction were two individuals. A man and woman; the man had one of the guns and had been aiming it with incredible precision, while the woman had been a little slower at hitting the targets, but was by no means a slouch. The two of them certainly seemed to have been having a good time with their friendly competition.
When the bell went off signaling the end of the session, the man cheered for himself. He threw his hands into the air -- one that held the toy gun, and the other just a fist being pumped in joy. The woman covered her mouth as she laughed at his elation, her eyes crinkling at the corners and showing the smile that her hand hid.
“Yes! Highest score in the gallery, baby!” the man cheered, dancing from foot to foot before placing the toy gun down and beaming at the woman he was with. “You did really well, too, Prim! Never thought you’d have been that good with a gun.”
“House Somnium didn’t teach just you, Prompto!” Prim replied with a small laugh, tucking a loose strand of white hair behind her ear. She set her own toy gun down, collecting the Choco-Mog Medals that she and the man she was accompanying earned from their session. “But it looks like you definitely took to the training better than I did. Bet it was all that time you spent taking photos during our schooldays before you started training.”
“You think so?” Prompto asked, holding out his hand as soon as Primam reached out to give him his medals. He counted up the medals before placing them into his vest pocket, the medals audibly clinking against one another.
“Well…sure, I suppose,” Primam responded, taking her purse from the shooting counter and dumping her medals within one of the pockets. “Years of practice, right? You definitely developed an eye for your targets -- sometimes you have the luxury of lining up a shot and taking your time with it. Other times, you have to be quick on the draw. You already trained your eye quite well in that regard, I’d think.”
“Huh…never really thought about it that way!” Prompto admitted, placing his hands on his hips. He gave Primam a sheepish smile. “I think at the time I picked it up and just thought about how natural it felt. Though it feels obvious now that you’ve put two and two together for me.”
Primam scoffed with amusement, shaking her head and shrugging slightly. She then glanced at the shooting gallery and how others were filing in to have a chance at playing the game. Walking closer to Prompto, Primam simply stayed near for now before she tilted her head in a way that seemed ready to get going from the venue. It was all but confirmed when she asked, “did you want to see the rest of the carnival?”
“Yeah, of course!” Prompto said it as if it was obvious, which elicited a somewhat rueful sigh from her as she shook her head with a smile.
“Then let’s get going while there’s still daylight to be had,” Primam suggested.
With a mutual agreement on that aspect, the two of them walked back through Palsino Street Station. There were many kids and teens that ran through the streets with festive gear -- hats with moogle poms, or hats with bills fashioned into chocobo beaks. Some of them even sported festival souvenir clothing. However, their mirth and merriment might have been a bit of a distraction to Primam, she noted Prompto looking toward one of the restaurants they were passing on the way to the gondola port.
Pausing in her step and looking toward the restaurant herself, Primam thought about it for a moment. The restaurant in question was called Touellia, and perhaps was one of the more renowned places to eat in all of Altissia. With the carnival drawing in a number of tourists as well, the outdoor seating was packed, and Primam could only really frown as her thoughts wandered.
“Hey, Prim…wanna grab some gelato?” Prompto’s question snapped the white-haired Crownsguard out of her thoughts as she took a moment to process his words.
“O-oh! F-from…from there?” Primam asked, slowly pointing toward Touellia with an uncertain expression.
“Pfft…probably too expensive for my wallet if we’re expected to use lira instead of yen or gil. I only managed to convert so much, y’know?” Prompto said, dismissing the idea with a wave of his hand. He then looked past Primam and pointed toward a gelato cart with a big smile. “Over there! I’ve seen a number of the Gelati Galigione carts all over Altissia! Never got the chance to enjoy any last time we were here -- y’know… with everything….”
Having to think about that for a moment, Primam finally went, “ah…” and nodded. She then carried out her thought: “that’s right. The last time we were here…a lot happened. Tandem and I had been with Lady Lunafreya before we met up with you and everyone else from Lucis. Then things really got out of hand. At least we’re able to actually enjoy Altissia and everything it has to offer now.”
Shaking her head to rid herself of some of the worst memories that were still there, Primam started in the direction of the gelato cart.
“S-sorry. We should certainly be celebrating rather than thinking about all of that!” Primam hurriedly spoke. She looked back at Prompto with a diffident smile, watching as he jogged momentarily to catch up with her. “You’ll catch no arguments from me!” Prompto replied in agreement. He brought a hand up to his chin as he squinted at the menu that hung from the cart’s roof. “What flavor did you want, Prim? There’s a number of options. They even have gelato made with red wine -- adults only, obviously.”
“Obviously.” Primam snickered softly, turning her gaze toward the menu as well. Humming to herself in thought, the noble’s eyes finally settled on a flavor that seemed appealing to her. “I think I’ll go with the Luna Blu flavor. I had something like it in Insomnia once upon a time -- and I remember really liking how creamy and fruity it was. What about you?”
“Stracciatella!” The response came with little to no hesitation. “It looks like a cookies and cream kind of variety, but I think it’s just chocolate shavings. I can’t really read Altissian too well.”
“To be fair, Altissian was more or less an optional class. I don’t think too many people were expected to travel outside the border of Insomnia often,” Primam reasoned. “Not with the Wall at the time, and the even more worrying daemons and creatures on the road.”
For better or for worse, however, it seemed that Prompto broke away to happily get the gelato flavors ordered for the two of them. Primam could hardly fault him for being excited about a sweet treat on a warm day -- more so that they were supposed to just be having fun. All this talk of the past was a little depressing in some respects. Even if some of it was brought up at the moment.
“For you, milady~” Prompto said, walking up to Prim and bowing as he offered her the cup of gelato with its little spoon.
“W-why thank you, kind sir,” Primam replied, playing along with a bit of an awkward curtsey. She could not help the blush she could feel spreading across her cheeks and neck.
Taking up the spoon, Primam took part in the helping of gelato, and smiled to herself. The cold, smooth, creamy and fruity flavors were most definitely refreshing since she and Prompto had been enjoying the carnival from earlier that morning. Now it was afternoon, and the sun made walking around the city a little more tiresome.
Walking around Palsino with their new cold treats, Primam and Prompto found themselves at a railing where they could overlook the ocean and the rocky cliffs that surrounded the city. Waterfalls cascaded into the gulf from those cliffs, creating a distant mist that gave a further sense of allure to the city and both what was in it, and what was beyond it.
Leaning on the railing, both Primam and Prompto idly enjoyed their gelato. For a while, they merely listened to the chatter of both carnival goers and residents. The lapping of the water against the wall below them. Carnival music that played on the speakers set up around the city. The distant conversations or singing of gondoliers that ferried their patrons. Aside from the carnival, this just seemed to have been the standard sounds of Altissia.
“Finished?” Primam asked, pointing at Prompto’s cup and noting that it seemed both she and Prompto had cleaned out their paper cups.
“Hm? Oh, yeah. I guess I am,” Prompto replied, clearly having been lost in his thoughts while they idled.
“I’ll take it off your hands and get it tossed out,” Primam offered. She held out her hand and was handed off the refuse. With a nod and a small ‘be right back, then,’ she walked toward a waste bin and got the trash tossed.
Meanwhile, Prompto watched after her, turning and leaning against the railing with a drawn out sigh. He leaned his head back and stared at the deep blue of the sky. His mind wandered, and his face became twisted with focus and concern. It seemed easier if he just thought about how deep and vibrant the sky was in Altissia versus how it looked in Insomnia.
“Stomach ache?” Primam asked, having arrived back and making Prompto jump with what felt like a sudden appearance.
“Wha-? Nope! Not in the slightest! Sorry, I was just lookin’ at the sky!” Prompto coolly replied, brushing aside any concern that Primam might have had. After a moment, his expression faltered. “Actually, Prim… I just wanted to thank you for hanging out today. I-I mean, I’m glad I ran into you today since I wasn’t even expecting to run into many people from Insomnia.”
Prompto turned back toward the railing and leaned over it, folding his arms as he did.
“I just wanted to experience the Moogle Chocobo Carnival for myself,” Primam softly replied with a smile, her expression distant. “Many of the Houses don’t get the luxury of such notions. Not even the Kings. So many obligations and things to keep in mind. Political movements and understanding; many of us have to prepare for the worst. Schooling; all of us have different modes of it. Most of the Houses had private tutors, thinking back on it. So many things to keep in mind and puzzle together.”
Silence lingered between them, only the sounds of Altissia filling the void.
“Still so wild how my life differs from yours or Noct’s. Literally just a plebeian who managed to actually hang out with the nobles,” Prompto scoffed. “My life could have been so different, though.”
“... You’re right,” Primam replied, thinking about her time at Zegnautus Keep with the others. She then hesitantly reached out and placed a hand on Prompto’s, holding it. Smiling at him warmly, she continued: “I’m glad you’ve been with us, though. That you’ve been by Noctis’ side. He really needed it -- someone who wasn’t one of…well, me. Tandem, Ros, Ignis, Gladio… we’re more like family than actual friends at times. Not to mention that we’re…all born into duty to the Crown.”
Prompto turned his gaze to Primam’s hand on his and kept it there as she spoke. Though the two of them were friends, something about the way she had been there to offer her touch reassurance and words felt…different to him in that moment.
“With the era of peace that we have…I imagine you’ll have more freedom to do whatever you’d like,” Prompto mentioned, lifting his gaze to meet Prim’s.
“I imagine you’re right.” Primam removed her hand from Prompto’s and looked out to the ocean.
Panic gripped Prompto when Primam removed her hand. He recalled something Gladio had mentioned offhandedly when he had been in Lestallum many years ago. Feeling his face flush, Prompto cleared his throat.
What was it that Gladio said?
Ah, right…it was a response to Prompto’s complaints nearly a decade ago….
“I don’t see why you’re bitching about girls not liking you when--what do they call her? Oh, right--when one of the silver-haired daemons likes you.”
… But…did he miss his shot?
Did Primam like him still as anything more than a friend?
“Prim, uh…” Prompto started. “Since…you probably have more time now… Do you…”
Primam looked back at Prompto, curiosity evident in her expression.
Clamming up, Prompto felt it harder to express himself now that she was keeping eye contact with him. He never felt so nervous about asking or expressing himself to others in the years he gained the confidence to have been Noctis’ friend and stand at his side. But…maybe it was because Primam literally always was there for him when she could be. She never complained about helping him or accompanying him before.
In fact, all the times they ran into each other, Primam seemed as if she always perked up and was enjoying herself a lot more when Prompto would first see her those days. Honestly, he just felt a little ashamed that he genuinely never noticed that she actually might have liked him until now.
And there was also guilt.
If Primam really did like him like Gladio pointed out, then all the times he mentioned Cindy or commented on Aranea in front of her… Well, having known how reserved Primam was, and how much quieter she became during those times…
“... Shit…” Prompto sighed, hanging his head as he slumped on the railing.
“... U-um…” Primam glanced to the side momentarily before looking back at Prompto with more uncertainty. “Prompto, are you sure you’re okay? I-I can use healing magic if something is wrong. I have some elemancy flas--”
“Do you want to date?” Prompto finally asked, cutting Primam off before she started rambling in her worry. He could feel his ears burning at this point -- both with embarrassment of the moment, and the shame of realizing his obliviousness in his past with her.
“What…?” Primam’s voice came out as a whisper barely audible over every other noise in Altissia. She clutched the strap of her purse and looked down at her feet. For a moment, she seemed to short-circuit. Primam’s mind had temporarily gone blank with the question before it flooded. Looking back up at Prompto, she seemed confused -- if definitely red with mixed emotions. “D-do you? I-I mean… I…I thought that -- I-I don’t know -- that you and Cindy….”
Primam trailed off, looking back down.
“... She and I were never a thing,” Prompto admitted. “I mean, I hoped for a bit, but….”
Prompto shook his head and furrowed his brow. Looking back up and at Primam, he straightened his stance and reached down for one of her hands that was not preoccupied with clutching her purse strap. Holding her hand in his, he mustered whatever courage he could. His heart was beating fast -- something he had not felt in a while that was not accompanied with the adrenaline rush of life or death.
“That doesn’t matter! I…I’m sorry if I ever hurt you, Prim. That…that is…” Prompto realized that without context, this must have been or felt awkward. “G-Gladio said you liked me. Years ago, but…I-I’m sorry if anything I did or said hurt you. B-because I never meant to! I just didn’t think or knew that you liked me.”
Primam froze for a moment, feeling as if she had been under a stone or paralysis curse. Her mouth twitched into an exasperated smile as her eyes widened.
“... H-how in the hells did Gladio know…” Primam finally whispered. “I…I never told…anyone. Not even Tandem.”
Prompto’s grip on Primam faltered momentarily. He was unsure if this meant that she still liked him. Though it was a little refreshing and terrifying to hear Primam essentially confirm the fact that she did like -- or liked -- him. Refreshing to know that there was someone out there who really did just enjoy his company and him enough to be there for him. Terrifying to think that maybe she no longer liked him romantically when he finally came to the realization that maybe he would like to test the waters now that his brain was finally working.
However, Primam pursed her lips together now that she was no longer shocked by Prompto’s words. She glanced at their hands, and then at Prompto. Her lips parted before she relaxed enough to slowly reciprocate and return the gesture of holding hands.
“I-is…that a yes?” Prompto nervously asked.
Primam’s expression became diffident before she gave a shy and shallow nod.
“I would very much like that, Prompto,” Primam shyly said. She felt a bit too embarrassed to look at him directly, but there was a sense of relief and joy that was evident in her coy expression.

“Dashing through the snow On a singing chocobo Under the starlight Grinning with delight—”
“Shut up, Juno.”
No one in their right mind would be out on a night raging with a snowstorm, arguing over petty things at the top of the rocky Twinpools mountains. No one, except a trio of the oddest companions you wouldn’t usually find across Eorzea, all of whom shared similar paleness that could blend in with the whitewashed scenery.
If only they weren’t too busy bickering with each other to enjoy the winter wonderland.
The singer was a wind-up minion in the likeness of the Queen of Shadows, Scathach, with an air of haughtiness that didn’t diminish with its miniature size. The subject of its merry song was a snow-white chocobo that failed to camouflage into the background with its bright red barding, reminiscent of the one given out at the Starlight event in Gridania a few days ago. The leader of the trio, a female Xaela in tuxedo with a monocle eyepiece that didn’t quite suit her, snatched the minion off the air and threw it violently at the icy ground.
“K-Kweh.”
The chocobo shuddered, nudging the Auri girl gently with its beak before moving in closer, ruffling its feathers against her. It clearly didn’t like to be out in the cold, and it wanted to snuggle up to its owner for warmth. The Xaela then turned her attention to the chocobo, ignoring the spluttering wind-up Scathach that finally poked its head out of the snow.
“Come on, you’d never know if you didn’t try! Shiro would make a fine addition to the Chocobo Choir and we’ll have the gils rolling in no time!”
“You only want me to ditch Shiro for the money. Not happening.”
Sora Amariyo gave Juno the talking-toy Scathach a death glare, then she—they—pulled out a letter from their pocket. They could recall the frantic delivery moogle that dragged itself across the stone ground at Falcon’s Nest to pass the juice-stained envelope to them. They also felt a little sorry for scaring the poor fellow when it called them ma’am because of their physical gender. Sighing, they glanced down at the yellowing paper to read its contents for the third time today.
Dearest Sora, How are you? It has been almost a year since the last time you visited the children at Menphina’s Arms. They really missed you—and I miss you, too. The stories of your grand adventures keep them in high spirits while you bring back collectibles and gils to the orphanage. We’re literally thriving here! I can’t thank you enough for all your help—now I don’t have to break my teeth on the frozen pineapple pudding I’ve been trying to save for weeks, and I can share them with the other kids too! Can’t wait to see you soon! With lots of love, Zhloe P.S. Khloe misses you so much that she can’t stop talking about you over dinner every evening!
Sora shook their head, but not without breaking a small smile at the thought of the upbeat (albeit scatterbrained) Miqo’te trying her best for the orphans of Idyllshire to repay the kindness she had received as a child. They didn’t want to admit that they empathized with her cause; they had a similar past, though with more complications they didn’t like to babble to strangers. Unlike Zhloe Aliapoh, their late foster mother, I’suca Amariyo, wasn’t exactly a caring person; they still wondered from time to time what her true agenda was when she saved them as an infant fifteen summers ago.
Tucking the letter into their pocket, they glanced up at the night sky. A hint of disappointment flashed across their face; they wouldn't catch the aurora lights tonight with the snowstorm roaring around them. They shrugged, hopping onto Shiro’s back with a determined look.
“Alright buddy, it’s time for work.”

Prompto’s life story in 31 days Day 20 Festival "Look, another one!" "Where?" "Right there! Look!" And sure enough, dangling right ahead of them, there's a moogle effigy dangling in the shadows under the bridge. Prompto snatches a picture of it before their gondola glides past it. "Do you think there'll be Chocobos shapes in the fireworks?" Prompto asks excitedly as he scrolls through all the pictures he's taken, counting how many moogles they've found so far. "I don't know. It would make sense", the prince all but shrugs. "Could you be any less interested?" Prompto pouts at him, puffing his cheeks like a child, and Noctis’s smile broadens. "I couldn't care less. I'm just happy to be alone with you, for once. The only thing I'm looking forward to about the fireworks is holding you close while we watch them. "Prompto gapes at him and blushes. It doesn't last though. He quickly clears his throat and swiftly steals a shot of the sweet, happy smile on Noctis’s face. "You're right", he says, his hand creeping to touch Noct's. "It's all that matters." After all, it's the perfect place. It's just so romantic.
